Food For All
Volunteers are needed every Saturday morning to help prepare and distribute food to seniors in need. Come to the back door on the alley at 9:00 a.m. and work until 10:30 a.m. or later if you wish to help with deliveries.
Leland Place Monthly Dinner Preparation
UNMC invites both church members and non-members to join in the preparation of a monthly dinner for the men of Leland Place. The Leland Place Transitional Housing Program, a facility of SOME (So Others Might Eat), describes itself as “a 13 week, live-in environment that is designed to help homeless men (who are addicted to drugs and alcohol and may also have a mental illness) become more self-reliant. The program participants are given the skills necessary to find and keep employment and to set goals for independent living while maintaining their sobriety.”
As always, we meet in the church kitchen at 2:30 p.m., with the goal of carpooling to Leland on North Capitol Street and serving the meal at about 5 p.m. We aim to return to the church by 6:30 p.m. In addition to their labor, volunteers may, at their option, also contribute up to $20 to the cost of the meal. If you are interested in participating, please RSVP to Dave Skidmore at firstname.lastname@example.org by the tenth calendar day of the month in which you wish to volunteer.
